Euterpe Bike Project is a community cycle chop shop located in Central City, New Orleans. The goal of EBP is to encourage and promote the diy bike community

New organization trying to promote bike awareness.

I like them cause their colors are electric blue and hot pink, which are awesome.

And more importantly the name speaks to me. When I’m riding my bike I see a lot of people in their cars, just not paying attention to the road. They’re yelling at their kids, texting, on the phone, eating, doing make up, scrounging underneath the car seat etc.

So, whenever I do make eye contact with a driver at an intersection I always say a silent, “Thank you for seeing me,” along with a hand wave.

It’s frustrating and a little scary that more often than not, people don’t see me, so I’m all down and for Thank You For Seeing Me and their super bright colors.

Wet Wood Bridge

Slipperiness Rating:  9/10

Wet wood or steel bridges always catch you off-guard.  You know you should use some caution on these but always forget that they’re as slippery as ice when wet.  I hate them with a passion…

More on riding in the rain. I admit, I don’t really dress for the rain. I find that raincoats are way too hot, and umbrellas don’t really do the trick when you’re on a bike. I figure it’s just water, and I’m not gonna melt. However, there are a couple of things I like to have on me when riding in the rain.

So, I am going to start posting bike tips. I’m sure a lot of this stuff, people already know, but if you don’t know, now you know.

It’s been raining a lot. I don’t have a car and I am trying to live the bike life (not really sure what that means yet), but for now it means riding in the rain. And riding in the rain means showing up to work covered in road grit, sweat and delicious rain. The front tires kick water and dirt into your face and rear tires give you that distinct skunk tail down your back. I have to admit I do feel totally hardcore when I’m chewing dirt, and singing some Johnny Cash while bumping along in the rain, but it makes for an uncomfortable work day.

So the solution? Mudguards aka fenders. Yea, they make your bike slightly heavier and a little less aerodynamic, but unless you’re racing the added weight is nothing.
